Nike SB BaySixty6

Image
BaySixty6 is a skatepark that was taken over by Nike SB in 2011, this example sets a pathway of how brands can benefit from sponsoring a skatepark. The park often gets refurbished as well as offering certain events such as girls only sessions or over 40's sessions. Previously the park was sponsored by xbox and playstation but the park didn't represent the brand so it failed as a way to attract customers.  http://wklondon.com/2012/06/nike-funds-baysixty6-skate-park-refurb/

Is it important for the council to build skateparks to prevent crime?

CrimePrevention.html The United Nations says ' Effective, responsible  crime prevention  enhances the quality of life of all citizens. It has long-term benefits in terms of reducing the costs associated with the formal  criminal  justice system, as well as other social costs that result from  crime .' This linked with stats about areas with skateparks having less crime than others is very useful.

Coronavirus: All Skateparks are Closed

coronavirus-closed-skateparks Covid has closed skateparks and skate shops for quite some time, they need our money more than ever.

Skatepark Graveyard

https://www.skateparks.co.uk/graveyard/ Here is a website of the skateparks that have closed down, on this page there are 55 skateparks but I believe that there more parks that have closed down.

Story of Supreme

From Skate culture to fashion power house, Supreme has capitalised from the skate culture, fashion has turned the sport into a luxury. Supreme has the unique selling point of making a limited amount of stock so it's more in demand. The brand started seeing attention when celebrities were spotted wearing the brand and ever since then it has spiralled. A benefit that supreme brings is that they collaberate with skate brands, however: they also collaborate with high end luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, CDG and Stone Island. It is also common for luxury brands to make skateboards and sell them for ridiculous prices, I think it would be suitable for these brands to give something to the community.

Story of how to get funding to build a skatepark in the UK

Image
https://www.skateboard-england.org/news/2019/10/24/story-of-how-to-get-funding-to-build-a-skatepark-in-the-uk This is a perfect guide of how to get funding to build a skate park, I remember many fund raising campaigns were ran to build donations towards the local skate park that I grew up with.  The article gives a short story of how the action sports nomad raised over £170,000 for his local skatepark project in Alton between 2018-2020. The aim of this article was to get people involved to build their own fundraisers to create their own local skateparks. Part1: Lucky Timing Alton skatepark last had a refurb in 1997, but other than a few re-spray jobs and a new grind box not much had improved in 20 years. The story goes that one obstacle was stolen and in may 2018 he decided to ring Alton town council to see if the obstacle could be replaced. Luckily he called at the right time as Alton town council were about to start a process of completely redeveloping the existing skatepark, usi...

7 REASONS WHY BRANDS AND RETAILERS SHOULD INVEST IN LOCAL SKATE PARKS

https://www.boardsportsource.com/2017/07/26/7-reasons-brands-retailers-invest-local-skate-parks/ Right off the bat this article discusses skateparks more than just a spot to skate but as a communal space for society.  The article also states there is no big push for brands or the industry to push for skateparks, I can only think of one skatepark that is owned by a big corporate brand which is Baysixty6 located in the west end of London. Nike sponsors this skatepark and in return apply advertisements around the skate park and a shop sells Nike SB clothes there.  1. Skatepark designs are better. I agree to some point, if you go to a brand new skatepark now it is perfectly designed, similar to what you would see at a professional skate competition.  If you put money into the right building companies you can create something that reflects your band in positive ways. 2. Permanent visibility. If you build a skatepark you can add whatever you like to is, including banners of you...

Skateboarding brands

Image
These are the most known skateboarding brands that have established themselves in the skateboarding community by sponsoring well known skateboarders and making products that skateboarders love. It would be ideal to team up with one or more of these brands to fund skateparks  that would be beneficial for everyone.

Professional skateboarders

Image
Here is a list of professional skateboarders, the USA have the most skateboarders which is no shock, the UK has quite a few but no crazy names. The rest of the world boasts a lot of professional skateboarders, which shows that there is talent from countries other than USA and the UK. It may even be a good idea to reach out to the professional skateboarders whose old local skate park is getting demolished or sold off.

Who is the report for?

Here is a quick jot of who the report will be aimed at, its useful to get the clients hooked because they have the money but its just as useful to get the public hooked as because if the clients see the potential then they are likely to give the money.

South Bank Skatepark

Image
theproject theproject South Bank skates spot is located in South Bank and boasts an underfoot skate spot that has been established there since the 1970's, when skateboarding was starting to take off in the UK. This is shear brilliance for my report as many property developers over the years have tried to buy this space and turn it into shops and restaurants but each time the skateboarders get together to form an alliance against it. A charity called Long Live South Bank started taking donations to keep the park safe from property developers and up until now its worked but its only a certain amount of time before it gets pulled.

Vice: Skate World: England

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrBrpgQ-rps&t=1212s  Back in 2010 Vice created a documentary to show history of skateboarding in London. At the very start of the documentary the protaganist says 'the thing that drives him at the moment is the risk of a lot of these places been taken away'. He discusses that documentaries are important to display skateparks being important to young people and stops people wanting to take away these places to build property. He mentions that its a powerful medium to speak to people, the councils and the government. I feel like I can relate to this documentary as the guy goes to different spots, meets up with his friends and talks about they history.  One skate spot they talked about was South Bank which is going to have its very own blog page.  Even on this documentary the protagonist goes to a skatepark that he knows is going to get knocked down as mentioned in the video the skatepark is called Harrow Skatepark. There was a fight to sa...
